Family BBQ & Tennis - Sunday 25th June

This coming Sunday, June 25th, we will be holding another Family Tennis & BBQ club event. The forecast at the moment is looking promising! We will need to know numbers for catering so if you’d like to come along, please email the committee at stebbingtennisclub@gmail.com by Friday 23rd June There will be a cost of £5 per person for the BBQ, under 10’s are free. Please bring your own drinks.

 

Coaching

Sessions run as follows:

Monday morning: 9:15am - 10:45am (ladies and men welcome)
Monday evening adult - (intermediate-advanced): 8pm-9pm
Tuesday evening adults - (beginners - intermediate) 7pm - 8pm
Thursday ladies morning -   9:15am - 10:45am

Ladies Night

Back by popular demand! Another Ladies “Prosecco & Tennis” evening will run on Friday 7th July from 7pm. Contributions to snacks are welcome and please bring your own drinks.

 

Juniors

Junior Tournament 
Last year we chose the wettest and windiest day to hold the junior tournament, this year possibly the hottest. Despite the sweltering heat everyone played brilliantly. Obviously, there were a few moments of disappointment. Playing your team mates and friends can be quite a challenge in itself. Each match however was played in great spirit, with very few tantrums, bad line calls or arguments! A huge thank you to Harvey and Tiss who stood in the blistering heat for hours on end, umpiring the matches.

Congratulations to Paige Bott, Charlie Martin, Christian Rankin and Luke Sargood for reaching the semi-finals of the U14 As and to Will Latham and Josh Boreham for reaching the finals of the U14 Bs. Finals will be played on Club Championships Finals Day on 10th September.

Team Managers' round-up of news 

Final results of the Winter League:

Mixed 1 – result TBC
Mixed 2 – came 3rd (7 teams in the group)
Mens 1 – came 2nd (6 teams in the group)
Mens 2 – came 6th (7 teams in the group)
Ladies 1 – came 6th (6 teams in the group)
Ladies 2 – came 3rd (6 teams in the group)

The Summer League matches are now being played in earnest and the weather has been glorious (some would say too hot, especially if you have to play inside!)

The Ladies 1 Team scored another draw in their second match. Although the Mixed 2 Team ended up losing their last three matches, they scored valuable points in each. The Mens 2 Team have also played three matches winning one 16-0 but losing the other two. Watch out anyone who partners Stan. He has a novel way of knocking up before a match - knocking his partner over! Tracy

Only one match played so far for the Mixed 1 Team this season, which resulted in a loss. Good points gained though considering a strong opposition and very blustery conditions! Josh

With excellent leadership provided by Team Manager Stephen Davies, the Mens 1 Team is performing well this season. With the introduction of a larger squad - including Will and Mark - we are provided with more depth to the team. With a number of other members showing promise and potential to move up, the men's premier team has a bright future. Jim 

The ladies 2nd team has had some hard matches so far, losing 2, drawing 1 and winning 1. Looking forward to the rest of the season, hoping this weather continues and that it brings on good results. Shady

The U18 Girls Team has enjoyed two more victories against Earls Colne and Marconi and are currently top of their league with two matches to go. Natalie

The U14 Boys Team has played 3 more matches, winning one and losing two. All matches have been played with good spirit by all the boys, requiring little assistance from managers or parents. It’s been really pleasing this year how self-regulating the boys have been. Graham
