Music Quiz Night

We are thrilled with the response to this event and currently have 95 people signed up. We still have room for a few more.

Don't forget - Green / Irish attire welcome!

Membership

We will be introducing a new membership payment system this year. This web-based system will help significantly reduce the administrative work for Sabina and Andy who are responsible for membership and payments. It will also mean less paper form filling in for you, our members. Win win (we hope!). Full details will follow by email later this month.

As previously communicated, the fees will be increasing this year. This increase has been carefully considered by the committee and was agreed at the AGM. It is needed to ensure we can maintain the courts to a high standard over the next 10 years. The new fees from 1st April 2018 are: £85 (adult), £175 (family) & £30 (junior).

We currently have 108 adult members but still have room for more before we hit our cap of 125. If you have any friends who are looking to join, we will be holding a Family BBQ Open Day on Sunday 13th May. Guests are also welcome to come along to one of our club nights or club mornings and ‘try before they buy’.

Club Championships

Hi everyone

This year I will be overseeing the Club Championships. I know most of you will have already organised partners. For those who haven't, there is still time, though I would encourage you to find partners promptly before everyone is snapped up!

The categories are: ladies singles, mens singles, ladies doubles, mens doubles and mixed doubles.

If you would like to enter, please let me know asap, even if you don't have a partner.

Deadline for entries is Thursday 29th March. The draw will be publicised the first week in April.

Thanks,

Josh McDowall (click here to email me )

P.S. Finals Day is Sunday 9th September.

Clubhouse cleaning and lawn mowing

As with any sports club, there are a number of basic house keeping duties that require help from volunteers.

Last year we enlisted the help of a number of members to clean the clubhouse and mow the grass. The system worked very well and we now need volunteers to come forward and offer their services for the coming year.

The duties only require an hour of your time. Please please please let Sabina or Josh know if you can help with either:

Email Sabina (cleaning)

Email Josh (mowing)

Coaching Survey

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Coaching Survey. The committee has reviewed the responses and will shortly be confirming coaching plans for the summer season.

3rd Mixed Team

We are currently considering entering a 3rd mixed team into the summer Essex Small Clubs League. The team would play in the division lower than the current Mixed 2 Team. This would be suitable for those who would like some competitive matches but are not currently playing for either the Mixed 1 or Mixed 2 teams.

If you are interested in playing, please email the committee by this coming Friday 9th March so we can assess the level of interest.

We also need a volunteer to manage the team. If you are interested, please let the committee know. Here are details of what is involved in this role (see last page).

League News

The current weather conditions have played havoc on getting the scheduled matches played with several matches being cancelled more than once! We are looking forward to the warmer weather and being able to play in just skirts/shorts and top (some men wear shorts all year round!).

With regard to the results for matches played so far:

The Ladies 1 Team has not done so well in getting their matches played with only three out of the eight scheduled matches played so far and winning only one.  Hopefully, the team will do better in the remaining five matches.

The Ladies 2 Team was at home to Standon and Puckeridge on the 27th March – this was our latest match to date. We won which means we have lost 1 drawn 1 and won 1. Still have 5 matches to go.

The Mens 1 Team has played 5 lost 4 but were awarded a walkover by Newport so now have a 'Get Out Of Jail Free' card!! We need at least one more win to survive in the Mens Premier Division.

The Mens 2 Team has played 4 matches out of 6 and is currently 3rd in the division.

The Mixed 1 Team has several matches still to play as poor weather conditions halted play. For those matches already played, we have had some decent wins. We have fought valiantly against larger clubs with larger pools of players to choose from! 'And been thrashed'!

The Mixed 2 Team has managed to play seven out of the ten scheduled matches, winning five and drawing one and losing one.  This means the team is currently top of the Division 1.
