Club Championships Finals Day - Sunday 11th September
One of the most important events in our club calander takes place this coming Sunday. Club Championships Finals Day sees 5 trophies being played for: Mens and Ladies Singles, Mens and Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
As a couple of matches are still to be played this week, the full list of finalists will be emailed out on Friday.
Play starts at 12.30pm and usually ends around 5pm. Refreshments will be provided.
As always, we welcome members to come along and support the finals day. However, we would like to make everyone aware that this our most competitive event of the year and, to ensure players are not distracted, there will be no fun off court activities provided for younger children. Older children who are keen to learn from some of our best club players are of course very welcome to come along and watch the matches.
Adult Coaching
Jude's adult coaching sessions will continue throughout the Autumn term. Please contact her direct to book a place:
Monday 9.15am - Ladies Morning
Monday 8pm - Advanced
Tuesday 7pm - Intermediate
Thursday 9.15am - Ladies Morning
Ladies Tennis
Our next Ladies Club Night will take place this week on Wednesday September 7th from 7pm. All standards welcome.
We are delighted that we now have sufficient interest to warrant entering a second ladies team into the league this coming winter. Please let Jude or Shady know if you are interested in participating.
Thursday Club NIght
At this week's committee meeting, it was decided to amend our policy on juniors attending Thursday Club NIght sessions. With immediate effect, juniors who have been invited to play for the club in the adult league matches are now welcome to join in Thursday evening sessions until 7.30pm. If the session is not too busy and adults are not being kept waiting for games, they are welcome to stay on as long as they wish.
Try a Raquet Session
On Thursday 15th September, Jude will have a number of different racquets from OutThere Sports available for members to try. This is a great opportunity to play with different brands and styles of raquets and Jude will be on hand from 6pm to advise accordingly.
Bishops Stortford One Day Tournament
Congratulations to our Stebbing Team who were narrowly pipped to the post by Dunmow in the Bishops Stortford One Day Tournament on Sunday 28th August.
7 teams took part: Bishops Stortford, Barley, Castle Hill, Dunmow, Stansted, Standon and Puckeridge and Stebbing. The overall winners were Dunmow with 86 points followed closely by Stebbing with 84 points!
Congratulations to our team - James and Jude (mixed doubles), Josh and Jacob (men's doubles), Erika and Tracy (ladies doubles). All in all it was a great day with all matches played in very good spirit.
Team Managers' round-up of Essex Small Clubs League news
The lovely weather in August was unfortunately not a sign for good results in the matches. The Mixed 1's achieved an 8-8 draw in the one match they played, the Mixed 2 team lost their three matches, the Ladies 1 team lost their two matches and the Mens 2 team lost their one match. All the matches have to be played by October when the teams’ place in their respective league tables will be determined.
Juniors
Assuming there is sufficient interest, the Junior one day tournament will take place on Sunday 2nd October from noon. To enter, please email Jude.
During half term, Jude will be holding a one day camp on Monday 24th October. Please contact her to reserve a place.
Please come along and continue to support Junior Club Night on Fridays from 7pm. Our Junior Captain, Piers, will continue to coordinate these assuming there is sufficient interest during the autumn term.
The summer holiday junior camps have been a huge success! Below are pictures from the August camps:
A big well done to Luke Sargood and Leticia Douglas who both won LTA tournaments during the summer holidays and did their coach very proud! Luke won his first Green Ball Tournament at Spring Lane, Colchester and Leticia won the Haverhill U16 Girls Open Tournament.
Working Party
A Working Party will be held at the club from 9am on Sunday 9th October - some major hedge cutting is required! Volunteers are needed - please let Steve Ryan know if you are available.
Whist Drive
Please join us! There is no need to have ever played Whist before - all rules will be explained for novices. This is always a very fun evening and you can enter either as an individual or as a pair. A delicious, homemade supper will be provided.
Date: Saturday 26th November at Friends Meeting House, High Street, Stebbing CM6 3SE
Time: From 7pm to 10.30pm approx. Licensed bar opens at 7pm.
Tickets: £15 pp

Village news - Stebbing Fete
Stebbing Fete takes place on Sunday 25th September and as always, STC has reserved a stand to help promote the club. We are looking for several volunteers to help us man the stand throughout the day - please let Jude know if you can help! If any of the older junior members would like to help, they would be most welcome.
Do you have green fingers?
One or two volunteers are required for a new floral project at the club. If you can spare some time and are interested in helping out, please contact Nicola on 07720 931509 for more details.
A belated thank you
"A somewhat belated thank you to everyone who took part in the Gnome Tournament earlier in the summer. We raised £500 in all for Prostate Cancer UK."
