Posted by Nicola Douglas on 7 November 2016
Josh is not only one of Stebbing Tennis Club's best players and a very popular member, but is also just launching his career as an artist. You are warmly invited to support his December exhibition at The Aubrey Art Gallery in Dunmow.
Exhibition: 7th December – 31st December 2016
Open Evening: 10th December from 7pm - 9pm
Joshua has been fascinated by the natural world and immersed himself in nature from a very early age. Growing up in the local area, the Essex countryside was Joshua's playground and he has very fond memories of breeding poultry and wildfowl with his brothers on the family farm. With a keen interest for all things feathered, he soon developed a passion for British birds and it is a passion that continues to this day.
Joshua is a nest recorder for the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) where he collects detailed observations of many British bird species, further fuelling his knowledge and understanding of his subjects. As well as studying and recording birds, he also paints them. Many of his works depict the more secretive side to birds and he visually shares with us intimate fragments of their lives that are often unseen and overlooked.
As well as studying and observing the bird world, Joshua also studies the human world and creates very detailed, graphic drawings poles apart from his bird paintings. His drawings are a visual diary of his thoughts, emotions, dreams and experiences and are an insight into his mind and soul. Using pencil and ink, the drawings contain recent events and often have secret messages and double meanings which leave plenty of room for interpretation.
